Barnaby's Cafe

Mmmmm...

For those of you who live in Houston, Texas, Barnaby's Cafe is a staple in the Montrose area. If you've every driven down Fairview and noticed the cute little house with a rainbow chimney, you passed by Barbaby's. Small and quaint the restaurant is host to some yum yum grub :) Barnaby's currently houses four locations for lunch and dinner and one location for breakfast (Baby Barnaby's). I am partial to the original location so my review below is for the original location.

I eat at the original Barnaby's on a regular basis. Some of my favorite dishes are the pesto chicken salad & artichoke heart sandwich, Chinese chicken salad, doctor Gale's Meatloaf and, most recently, the egg salad sandwich. Any and all of the above serve as outstanding fare. Most sandwiches come with their greatly seasoned fries, but other options are sweet potato fries, chips or vegetables. Even if food is good at a restaurant I am incapable of frequenting if the service is bad - no food is worth bad service, but I have never experienced bad service here.

Today, Jenny & I went there for lunch and I ate the egg salad sandwich for the first time. Words to describe it: fluffy, yummy and rich. It was one of the best egg salads I've ever eaten. Something to note is that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and bacon. For some reason I didn't catch that on the menu and was caught a tad off guard, but nothing a little picking off didn't fix. I ordered the sweet potato fries as my side. I simply love their sweet potato fries, but I don't know that I would pair it with egg salad ever again. It just wasn't a very complimenting flavor.

Then for dessert I ate the vanilla cupcake. Oh my! The icing is actually a vanilla bean icing. A definite reorder for me :)

For a nominal $28.15 Jenny & I ate two entrees, two sodas and one vanilla cupcake. I would consider this average for good lunchtime sustenance. Not to mention Barnaby's is local; not a chain or of corporate persuasion, but local business.

Something neat to notice is at the Original location local artist's usually have art displayed on the walls. Sometimes for sale and sometimes not, but always a treat to see. Today Calvin Mills was exhibited.
